MINOT — Earlier this year, when Gov. Kelly Armstrong vetoed book ban legislation, the proponents of the policy were apoplectic.

North Dakota children were being sexualized and groomed and subjected to “pornography” by librarians and educators, they assured us.

It is a crisis, they would have us believe.

The book banners were so angry that, when a populist faction of Republicans took over control of the North Dakota Republican Party, they issued two censures for Armstrong. One was for the book ban veto.

It’s often helpful, when it comes to these issues, to remove them from a political contest. So here, once again, is a reminder that this crisis only seems to exist during legislative sessions.
