A senior Edinburgh nurse who slapped a resident and called a co-worked a 'fat lazy c***' has been struck off the register.

Julie McKinney, who worked as an adult nurse at an unnamed care home in the city, was the subject of a hearing at the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Concerns were raised after she failed to prescribe required medications , and swearing at residents and fellow staff members.

The report states that she called one resident a 'f***ing fat c*** sucker'. During a handover, she also asked why residents were 'not dead yet'.

McKinney was employed at the home from April 20, 2020 until May 17, 2024. She became a senior staff nurse in October 2023.
