Former cricketer and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin is set to become a minister in the Telangana government. He will be sworn in at Raj Bhavan on October 31 (Friday).

By-elections for the Jubilee Hills assembly seat, which has a large Muslim voter base, are scheduled for November 11, and Azharuddin’s induction is expected to hugely influence the Congress’s prospects there.

Azharuddin was nominated to the Legislative Council (MLC) through the Governor’s quota in August.

After the Supreme Court struck down the earlier nomination list, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy included his name in the revised one.
