LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Michigan Library Association will hold a press conference on Wednesday to urge state leaders to defend the right to read.

Library advocates are speaking out in support of the freedom to read, emphasizing the bipartisan backing for Michigan’s public libraries and reaffirming the belief that libraries are for everyone.

The petition calls on Governor Whitmer and the Michigan Legislature to uphold the freedom to read, support library workers, and safeguard vital statewide programs such as MeL and MeLCat.

Following the press conference, the petition will be hand-delivered to every legislative office.
