A 49-year-old man has been ordered to face a fleeing charge in Macomb County Circuit Court for leading Warren officers on a road chase that ended in a crash involving multiple vehicles.

Everett Lee Smith of Sterling Heights was bound over to the trial court Tuesday on charges of second-degree fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and committing two other lesser offenses, by Judge Suzanne Faunce of 37th District Court in Warren following a preliminary examination.

The fleeing charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said Smith put other motorists in danger on the day of the incident and made reference to a slew of fatal traffic crashes in recent years in the county that spawned from suspects fleeing police.
