A Teesside council Cabinet is being told that pulling out of contentious incinerator proposals could result in the council effectively needing to declare itself bankrupt. Redcar & Cleveland’s Labour Cabinet is set to meet at 2pm on Thursday October 30 to make a major decision on the Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility (TVERF).
The Cabinet are recommended by council officers to agree to remain part of the TVERF project and authorise all steps necessary to be taken for the council and the required “local authority special purpose vehicle” to achieve contract award, financial close and full implementation of the project arrangements.
If councillors in the Cabinet decide to go against officer recommendation and withdraw from the project, then it would need full council approval - potent
