Each Thursday afternoon at Lincoln Elementary School, when classes are over and most kids head home with their parents, a dutiful cadre of students instead goes to the back of the school and dons neon vests. With some nifty grabber tools and easy-carry trash bags, their transformation is complete: no mere students, they are now the Lincoln Lion Litter Patrol.
They scour the schoolyard for stray pieces of trash, picking up bottle caps, shreds of plastic and the occasional big catch. ×
