Man found dead in Augusta was 66 years old, 'been there a few days'

Authorities are learning more about a man found dead behind a group of south Augusta apartments.

The body of Byron Smith, 66, "had been there a few days" by the time officers found him Tuesday in a wooded area on the 2400 block of Bahama Drive, off Bungalow Road, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

No foul play is suspected, Bowen said.
