A man was arrested Monday night after the FBI was made aware of "credible threats of violence" against multiple synagogues in Alabama and surrounding states.
Jeremy Shoemaker is charged with resisting arrest and possessing a firearm while forbidden, according to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office, but officials say he likely faces multiple federal charges.
A search of Shoemaker's home in Needham executed by the 1st Judicial Circuit Special Response Team turned up "weapons, more than a suitcase full of ammo, body armor and other items related to the plans of violence."
Investigators later determined Shoemaker did not intend to be taken alive and was possibly planning attacks on public figures, according to the sheriff’s office.
