Columbia County School District officials have reported finding a gun in a student's bookbag and a knife on a school bus.
Grovetown High School Principal Andrew Young said in a letter to parents Wednesday monring that "a studwnt was found in possession of a handgun in his bookbag on campus." School district police recovered and removed the weapon without incident, he said.
The GTHS student "is facing criminal charges with consequences" as spelled out in the county public schools' Code of Conduct .
A pocketknife was found Wednesday morning on the floor of Bus 1505, Route 2, by a Riverside Elementary School fifth-grader who turned it over to the bus driver, according to RES Principal Lynn Gardner in a letter to parents.
The bus route serves RES and Greenbrier High School.
