GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island City Council approved a bid for $13,196,820 for Scheele-Kayton Construction from Lincoln to renovate Island Oasis Water Park at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Food and Beverage funds will be utilized to fund the project.

The bid is lower than the original estimate of $15.9 million during the summer. The park is set to see some new features, including upgrades to the parking lot, aquatics, splash pads, bathhouse and the addition of a putt-putt golf course at the facility.

The hope from Parks and Recreation officials is to make the park more attractive to families with young children.

Now that the bid has been accepted, the work could begin as early as late this year.
