PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) -- A Pennsylvania Senator is looking to criminalize indiscriminate tactics of arrest and detainment by Immigration and Customs Enforcement with a new piece of legislation.
Senator Art Haywood's newest memo was inspired by a lawsuit recently brought to federal court in Colorado. The lawsuit was filed by the ACLU of Colorado against the Trump administration to enjoin ICE from conducting warrantless arrests in Colorado without probable cause that the person is a flight risk and in the country without legal documentation.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Refugio Ramirez Ovando, 43, Caroline Dias GonCalves, 19, J.S.T., 36, and G.R.R., 32. The ACLU noted that Ovando, GonCalves and G.R.R. are all legal residents of the United States and that J.S.T. is seeking asylum.
