WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) - A decision in the 11th District Court of Appeals in Trumbull County compels Trumbull County Auditor Martha Yoder to pay Bazetta Township over $80,000 that was lost in a cybercrime.

Yoder had appealed a lower court's ruling stating that the funds had to be paid. Yoder argued in her appeal that she had already fulfilled her duty as auditor to pay the money when she transferred the funds, albeit to a cybercriminal, that she contends was the result of negligence by Bazetta Township when its fiscal officer had two-factor authentication removed from their email.

A total of $160,000 was directed to the scammers in the April 2024 hack. All but $80,000 was recovered.
