PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Pekin Police Department is asking people to use extra caution behind the wheel this Halloween, which lands on a Friday this year.

The agency issued a statement urging people to drive sober, buckle up, follow traffic laws and remain aware that kids and families will be haunting their neighborhoods after dark for candy."

"Driving under the influence is never acceptable. DUIs are not limited to alcohol-related offenses. Driving under the influence of cannabis, or drugs, is illegal -- period," said Chief Seth Ranney.

Cannabis is legal for adults, but "if you drive high, you'll still get a DUI," he said, adding everybody in the car must wear a seatbelt or risk a ticket.
