WASHINGTON — Walmart is not closing despite false claims circulating on TikTok linking the national retailer to the ongoing government shutdown and paused Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits .
Several viral videos on the platform falsely claim Walmart stores will shut their doors as panic over halted food assistance grows. One user said , “Walmart said the doors will be locked. Ain’t nobody coming in the store but the employees. Place your order online.”
Another video , with more than 1 million views, referenced rumors of looting and suggested that police stationed at every store.
“Now every Walmart has a police officer on standby, and they're thinking about not opening the doors until the situation has passed,” the TikToker said.
