TWO HARBORS, Minn. — One of the most storied shipwrecks on the Great Lakes will mark its 50th anniversary with a packed house on the north shore of Lake Superior.

Every November, folks at the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) commemorate the SS Edmund Fitzgerald's sinking with a big to-do at the Split Rock Lighthouse north of Two Harbors on the big lake they call Gitche Gumee.

The Historical Society reports that this year the event sold out a record-breaking 2,000 in-person tickets, although the public can still watch it online on Monday, Nov. 10.

"Tickets to the in-person ceremony at Split Rock Lighthouse are sold out, but you can still join online for the annual beacon lighting," the MNHS website states.
