ATLANTA — The man accused of traveling to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport intending to commit a mass shooting was denied bond during a Wednesday hearing in federal court in which his lawyers were expected to ask for bail.
The proceeding was also expected to touch on his potential mental health evaluations.
The suspect, Billy Joe Cagle, is in federal custody after the alleged shooting plot was thwarted by police on scene at the airport earlier this month.
Cagle, 49, was previously described as having "mental challenges" by Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. He made an initial appearance in front of a federal judge on Wednesday last week and was advised of his rights and the charges against him.
