Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for November are on the line as the government shutdown continues to drag on.
SNAP, also known as food stamps (or 3SquaresVT in Vermont), is a federal initiative that provides monthly benefits to low-income people to help them afford nutritious groceries.
However, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) warned that it no longer has the funding to deliver November food benefits. Vermont Attorney General Charity Clark joined a coalition of 22 attorneys general and three governors in suing the Trump administration over the funding lapse , saying the funds do exist in a contingency fund.
But if the lawsuit doesn't deliver relief, come Nov. 1, the 10.1% of Vermont residents who rely on SNAP benefits will not receive food
