Opposition Leader Leanne Castley has told members of the Canberra Liberals the party needs to deal with "sensitive internal matters in a thoughtful way" after she suspended Elizabeth Lee and Peter Cain from her party room , without providing further explanation for the decision.

Ms Castley declined to comment as she left the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday evening, having made no further public statements about her decision to suspend Ms Lee and Mr Cain after they crossed the floor to support an extra sitting week next year.

The decision has been met with a mixture of disbelief and support across the Canberra Liberals, and drawn ire from party elders.
