AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Parks and Recreation Department has issued a temporary burning restriction at all city parks Wednesday as high fire danger continues across Central Texas.

The restriction, effective Oct. 29, aims to protect park visitors and nearby neighborhoods by reducing wildfire risk in city parks, greenbelts and preserves. It will remain in effect until weather conditions improve, officials said.

The restriction bans open flames and grilling, including wood and charcoal barbecue pits, grills and smokers. Only propane stoves may be used and only in designated picnic areas. Smoking remains prohibited in all city parks.

Violations are subject to fines ranging from $300 to $500. The parks department said it will continue monitoring conditions and lift the restriction once
