SALEM, Ore. - As Halloween approaches, the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation is cautioning residents to be vigilant against scammers posing as officials or financial experts.

According to the 2025 Enforcement Report from the North American Securities Administrators Association, scams involving digital assets, social media, and impersonation are major threats this year. The use of artificial intelligence by criminals is making these scams more convincing.

In a recent case, a suspect was arrested for traveling across the country to collect money from a victim in a cryptocurrency scam. This is part of a "pig butchering" scheme, where criminals build trust before luring victims into fraudulent investments.
