The fourth-seeded Umpqua Valley Christian Monarchs (21-3) will play host to the No. 29 Echo Cougars (12-11) on Wednesday night in Round 1 of the Oregon 1A volleyball state championship playoffs .
Coach Candice Renyer’s Monarchs won the Skyline League title with a perfect 10-0 league record. They enter the state playoffs having won 17 of their past 18 matches.
The Cougars, coached by Des Thew, tied for third place in the Old Oregon League with an 8-2 league mark. They had won six of their past seven matches before falling to Elgin in the league playoffs last Friday.
Umpqua Valley Christian and Echo have not met this season.
Opening serve is set for 6 p.m. PT on Wednesday, October 29, with a live TV broadcast on NFHS Network .
