NEWARK - About a dozen North Ward residents stood behind a beloved Newark restaurateur's plans to turn a fire-damaged building in the Forest Hill neighborhood into a three-unit apartment building with a first-floor bakery.
After hearing the site proposal and the community’s overwhelming support, the Newark Board of Adjustment approved the application of Mayttee Cordero – a well-known Newark native and business owner – to demolish the existing structure at 710 Summer Ave. and construct a mixed-use building in an 8-0 vote at its Thursday, Oct. 23 meeting.
The applicant will demolish the existing remains of a two-story frame building, which is currently damaged from a fire and used to house Isabella’s Restaurant, and construct a new three-story, mixed-use building containing a bakery and
