WISCONSIN (WFRV) - Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are asking hunters to help their fellow Wisconsinites by donating their harvested deer.
The donations go through the DNR's Deer Donation Program, which stocks food pantries statewide, supporting those in need of food.
DNR Secretary Karen Hyun said in the release that the need is crucial, especially as food assistance programs near a shutdown and loss of funding due to the ongoing government shutdown.
"Our Deer Donation Program helps provide nutrition-packed options like venison and we are optimistic hunters will continue their role in combating hunger in Wisconsin through this program," Hyun said.
