The Met Office has warned of a spell of unsettled weather as we approach Halloween this weekend.

While much of the world's attention has rightly been focused on Hurricane Melissa in the Atlantic, forecasters on these shores are monitoring the potential development of another area of low pressure that could bring strong winds and rain to western parts of the country.

The UK's national meteorological service, working in partnership with Met Éireann and KNMI in the Netherlands, is closely tracking this system as it evolves.

At present, the Met Office says it does not appear likely to meet the criteria for a named storm , but the situation remains under review.
