MAINE, USA — The first referendum question on the Nov. 4 ballot will ask voters whether they want to change Maine's election laws.

If passed, Question 1 would add a requirement to show photo ID in order to vote, and it would change how people can request and receive absentee ballots, among other things.

Currently, in Maine, voters do not need to show any ID at the polls. Voters are only required to provide proof of identity and residency when registering to vote.

If passed, a voter would have to show their Maine driver's license, a non-driver ID card, a U.S. passport or passport card, or a U.S. military, Maine National Guard, or Department of Veterans Affairs ID card.
