AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Janet Mills announced Wednesday that $1.25 million will be distributed to food pantries and anti-hunger programs across Maine as the federal shutdown halts food assistance for about 170,000 residents beginning Saturday, Nov. 1.

The funding includes $1 million from the governor’s contingency account and $250,000 from the John T. Gorman Foundation. The money will be distributed through the Good Shepherd Food Bank and Maine’s network of Area Agencies on Aging to help families, children, older adults, veterans, and people with disabilities affected by the loss of federal food benefits.
