FARGO — Halloween night will fall on a Friday this year for the first time since 2014, which means more trick-or-treaters will be out on sidewalks in search of candy.
According to Safe Kids Worldwide, twice as many children are killed while walking on Halloween than on any other day of the year.
A local Sanford educator says trick-or-treaters should wear warm clothing and always use sidewalks or crosswalks. Dark costumes should also be paired with a flashlight or glow stick to help kids be seen in the dark.
“People get cold pretty fast. I know kids think that they can stay warm for a really long time, but they don't always realize that they're getting cold when they're having fun. So make sure, as a parent, that you're having them dress appropriately,” said Erin Kiefert, community life
