BOSTON —
Cleanup is underway after Hurricane Melissa rocked the island nation of Jamaica.
Back home in Massachusetts, many residents are worried about their loved ones who were stranded there during the storm.
Communication to the island has been difficult after the hurricane left a wake of destruction in its path.
Local police released video on Wednesday of them starting to pick up downed trees and repair flooded marketplaces.
Officials say hospitals have been destroyed as well as schools.
"Everything has been washed away by flood waters, the situation is very bad at this location," said a spokesperson for the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
The Category 5 storm brought about 185mph winds, knocking out most cell phone service and electricity.
