As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, a local woman is sharing her story of survival.
She says the one thing that helped save her life was knowing her family history. Advertisement
It’s a full-circle moment in a Christ Hospital exam room for Leah Holland as she catches up with her doctor.
"It kind of made me realize what was really important in my life and maybe what I need to put on the back burner," Holland said.
It’s this hospital where she, her mom, and her aunt were all treated for breast cancer.
"I was kind of hoping that it wasn't going to, you know, cancer wasn't going to come for me until later on, like it did with my mom and my aunt," Holland said.
Knowing the disease ran in her family, Leah began early screening as a high-risk patient.
