EL PASO, Ill. (WAND) - An El Paso man was charged in federal court after making threats against President Donald Trump.
The El Paso Police Department said on Facebook they arrested 27-year-old Derek Lopez of El Paso just after 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 during a traffic stop along Main Street.
Police said Lopez was wanted on a federal warrant for reportedly making threats against Trump.
Police added that Lopez was arrested without resistance and was later questioned by FBI and Secret Service at the El Paso Police Department.
Lopez was then booked at Woodford County Jail and placed under federal detention.
If convicted, Lopez faces a maximum of five years in prison, according to the Central District of Illinois.
