AUSTIN, Texas — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is calling on the state of Texas and school districts to implement enforceable seat belt policies on school buses in the wake of an August crash involving a Leander ISD bus.

The NTSB issued urgent safety recommendations to the state of Texas, national school transportation associations and Leander ISD. The recommendations stem from an ongoing investigation into the Aug. 13 crash on Nameless Road, near Sandy Creek.

The bus had just left Bagdad Elementary School when the crash happened. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the road was wet from rain at the time of the crash.
