ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Colorado is seeing a major dip in car thefts, with places like Adams County seeing case filings drop 50% compared to the numbers in 2022.
In 2022, Colorado had the highest number of car thefts per capita in the country. 17th Judicial District Attorney Brian Mason painted a picture of the troubles prosecuting car thieves during that time.
“We literally had thieves who were stealing a car in the morning, getting charged with a misdemeanor, getting arrested, bonded out and stealing another car that same afternoon,” Mason said. “That was just a travesty that needed to be changed. So we strengthened the laws.”
