GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - A new $20 million crane lifts into the sky over the Port of Gulfport.

This crane, paid for by Ports America, brings the total up to four cranes at the port. Port CEO Jon Nass said this will increase productivity at the port once it’s up and running.

“It allows us to simultaneously work two vessels at once at full capacity,” said Nass. “That means we’re going to be faster, we’re going to be more efficient, and we’re going to be more attractive to new business coming to Gulfport.”

The Port also recently announced the introduction of an overnight American Cruise Line stay in Gulfport. Nass said the cruise liner wants an authentic experience at a working port for its guests.

This leaves minimal prep work for the port before welcoming ships.
