WACO, Texas — La Vega senior wide receiver Jabarie Thornton, known to his teammates as “Lightning,” has been named KCEN’s Week 9 Player of the Week after another standout performance for the Pirates.

The three-star recruit helped La Vega remain unbeaten in district play last Friday with two touchdowns against Robinson. Thornton leads the team in receiving, averaging more than 100 yards per game, and has scored nine touchdowns this season.

Thornton said his focus this year has been on team chemistry and building stronger relationships on and off the field.

"We needed to build more team chemistry, become closer as a family and brothers... and just focus on getting better, bigger, stronger, faster," Thornton told 6 News.
