COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - A recent cold front has brought fall-like temperatures to the Brazos Valley, but it has also significantly increased fire danger across the region, according to the KBTX First Alert Weather Team and the Texas A&M Forest Service.
Despite recent rainfall, widespread drought conditions remain, leading to burn bans in 11 of 16 counties across the Brazos Valley.
Ryan Burns with the Texas A&M Forest Service emphasized that a combination of low humidity and high wind speeds creates ideal conditions for wildfires to ignite and spread rapidly.
Sustained winds are currently between 15 and 25 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 miles per hour.
