After federal officials announced SNAP benefits will be suspended for the month of November amid an ongoing government shutdown, a Hastings restaurant is helping its neighbors.
Starting on Nov. 4, Lock and Dam Eatery will feed families receiving SNAP benefits on Tuesdays free of charge.
The restaurant announced on Facebook that on Tuesdays, children can order off the kids menu and adults can order spaghetti or fettuccine alfredo. Proof of SNAP and a matching ID is required.
“This is not a political thing, this is just helping out where we can. Sometimes we all need a little help,” the post continued.
In a subsequent social media post, the restaurant said the demand is "huge" and it will be feeding "a lot of people" in the coming weeks.. For those wishing to help the restaurant with the
