Richmond veteran Dion Prestia and Melbourne defender Steven May have been charged by Victoria Police following a late-night brawl on Boxing Day last year in Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula.
Prestia and May, both aged 33, were investigated after a fight broke out after a bucks party at the Continental Hotel.
The Richmond Football Club confirmed on Thursday that Prestia had been charged with recklessly causing serious injury.
“As with any member of the community, he is entitled to the presumption of innocence,” Richmond said in a statement.
“The Club will continue to support him as the legal process takes its course. He will return to pre-season training next month.
“As the matter is now before the courts, the club will not be making any further comment.”
