How challenges work in MLB World Series, including how many a manager gets to use

They want to get the calls right.

That's why MLB implemented its challenge system, and it's never on a bigger stage than it is during the World Series, like this year between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers .

The challenges have been flying early and often in this series, too. A few calls have been overturned, and a few have stood firm.

How many challenges are there in MLB?

In MLB, teams get manager challenges to start each postseason game.

How do MLB challenges work?

Challenges are made to either overturn a call on the field or let it stand. As of 2025, they can't yet be used on ball-strike calls.
