The US Senate voted 50 to 46 on Wednesday to rebuke American President Donald Trump’s authority to levy steep tariffs on Canada. This follows Trump’s recent action of ramping up tariffs on the country by an additional 10% over a controversial Ronald Reagan television advertisement that criticized his trade policies, The Hill reported.

The Senate had earlier voted to pass the same measure on April 2, 2025, but the progress hit a standstill after the Republican-controlled House refused to act on it.
