ORACLE, Ariz. (KVOA) - Oracle State Park is launching a new rescue program to enhance hiker safety by installing signs throughout the park.
Dozens of new signs have been placed to help hikers pinpoint their exact location in case of an emergency. These signs are designed to improve response times during emergencies by displaying instructions on how to contact the park office and providing GPS coordinates. This allows hikers to share their exact location with emergency dispatchers.
Ranger Dylan Bastian, the park's maintenance coordinator, explained the strategic placement of the signs.
"We chose the intersections that are just far enough out to where you can’t see the parking lot, you can’t see the trailhead. Places where people might just take a wrong turn," Bastian said.
