LAS VEGAS (KLAS) - The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is warning the public about a scam circulating across the area posing as the department itself.
First, the caller receives a phone call from the scammer, which appears to be coming from the LVMPD's non-emergency number 702-828-3111; however, it is not actually the police.
The scammer then identifies themselves as a "Captain" (or similar law enforcement position) with an official-sounding title or division. The scammer then tells the caller on the line that they were a "no call, no show" or they're requesting money that the caller may owe. The scammer then threatens the possibility of arrest if the caller does not pay immediately.
