MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Tuesday as a Category 5 hurricane, the strongest the island of Jamaica has ever experienced.
As we mentioned, Jamaicans are now recovering, and some Americans are stranded. One of those Americans is Sherry Sakosky from Scranton.
Sherry traveled to Montego Bay for her 50th birthday celebration with family members from Clarks Summit and Meshoppen. "Seeing everything on the news the night before, I sent my 'I love you' messages and letters. I even sent to my work team, 'I believe in you, you're going to do great things.' I just didn't know if I was going to make it through."
She adds, "We are confirmed on a flight. So I'm very hopeful that we are able to get out on Sunday, but again, my thoughts and prayers are definitely going to
