DUNMORE, Pa. — It was Brenda Sacco's first meeting as the chair of the Lackawanna County Commissioners. Many questions were raised about this year's and last year's budgets, where the county raised taxes significantly.

"Was the 33% property tax increase in 2025 truly necessary? Did Commissioner Gaughan collaborate with our state legislators for opportunities for financial assistance?" asked Commissioner Brenda Sacco.

Gaughan defending his decision to increase taxes last year, saying it led to a balanced 2026 budget without a tax increase this year.

"The hard work that we have put in, and the incredibly difficult decisions we have made, including last year's tax increase, are indeed moving the county government towards stability, predictability, and sustainability," said Bill Gaughan.
