India middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is expected to be out of action for at least two months after suffering laceration of the spleen while taking a catch during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground earlier this month. Iyer reportedly fainted inside the Indian dressing room and was immediately rushed to a Sydney hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Iyer is set to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa in November-December with doubts that he will be available for the next year’s bilateral ODI series against New Zealand in January either.
