SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) -- People in central Sioux Falls are celebrating a much-anticipated addition to their neighborhood.
They'll gather Thursday for the ribbon cutting at Lincoln Commons, a place for families in the Pettigrew Heights and Cathedral neighborhoods.
It's a good time to fly a kite on a windy fall day. Kimberly Caldwell and her two kids are regular visitors to Lincoln Commons.
"And it's good for them to get outside and so it's easy to come here, where they can run around on some grass and not just sidewalk, or bike around the block," Caldwell said.
The commons are located on the site of the old Lincoln Elementary School, one of the first schools ever built in Sioux Falls back in 1889. The school outlived its usefulness and was torn down in the early 2000's.
