CALEDONIA, Ill. — An intersection in Caledonia is the center of a major upgrade with the goal to improve the intersection to become safer for drivers.
IDOT is in the early planning process of converting the intersection at IL 173 and Caledonia Road into a roundabout.
During a crash analysis between 2019 and 2023, 37 crashes occurred along the corridor.
“We are seeing on average four injuries per year, last week there was a serious crash out there. We really do want to reduce these crashes as soon as possible,” said Michael Kuehn, Program Development Engineer for Illinois Department of Transportation District 2.
Kuehn says IDOT has considered multiple solutions to reduce the crashes, including adding a four way stop and a traffic signal, but believes a roundabout is the best approach.
