INDIANAPOLIS — Butler basketball coach Thad Matta knows the toughness it takes to be a high-level basketball player.

The willingness to grit and grind through aches and pains is what separates good players from great players, and that doesn't switch off when a player transitions into coaching.

Matta also knows how important it is to listen to your body. He led Ohio State to the NCAA tournament nine out of his 13 years as the Buckeyes coach but stepped away due to health problems in 2017.
