HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Just before midnight on Tuesday, strong winds swept through Garland County, and tragedy struck along Majestic Lodge Road.

According to the Garland County Sheriff’s Office, a large tree crashed through the roof of 37-year-old Shannon Hobby’s home, killing the mother while she slept.

For many in the Lake Hamilton community, the news came as a devastating shock.

“It was shock, disbelief, you don’t think that kind of thing happens, especially to people you know,” said Kristen Muncrief, an owner of Muncrief Coffee and a family friend.

Muncrief’s son played football with Hobby’s son, and through years of school events and senior football activities, the two moms became close.
