COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Some local restaurants are stepping in to help by offering free meals to kids until SNAP benefits come back. One of them is Heart of Jerusalem in Colorado Springs.
The owner told 11 News it’s his way of giving back to the supportive community.
Hussein Abukhdeir has owned the restaurant for almost 20 years.
“We thought since people are gonna lose food stamps, by the first, we can help the people out, our community, to feed their kids until it comes back again,” Abukhdeir said.
He said all children who eat at the restaurant eat free, no questions asked.
This generosity stems from a spiritual level, and Abukhdier said he was raised to give to those who need help.
He told 11 News he’s inspired by the Muslim holiday Ramadan to help those in the community d
